Improving Our Spiritual Understanding

Theme: The Church of Jesus Christ.

Memory Verse:

“And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it” (Matthew 16:18)

Beloved

We bless the name of the Lord for this second half of 2015. Father, we bless your holy name. Who is like unto thee O LORD among the gods? Glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, always doing wonders.

Brethren, this season, the Lord wants us to have increasing understanding of the Church of our Lord Jesus Christ (The Body of Christ).

When the word Church was first used by our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, it was with reference to Peter as per our memory verse: “That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church”.  The word church was first used with reference to an individual. Today, the word church is often used rather very superficially. Brethren, although the building is important, but the building is not the church. Although fellowship is important, but fellowship is not the church. The church of Jesus Christ are the truly born again sons of God. Please, not that there is no gender difference in the spirit realm.

Apostle Paul explained  it thus: “Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular” (1Cor 12:27).

Beloved, every true believer is a tiny part of the body of Christ ( the church), hence is ALWAYS in the church whether he is in his lounge, kitchen, bathroom, toilet, car or within the building or place of worship we often called the church.

Spiritually speaking, this understanding will help you a great deal, to always remain connected to the head of the church(the Word). I have often hear Christians say: “I am going to church”, rather than say they are going for fellowship or corporate worship. The truth is that you cannot go to yourself if indeed you are truly born again. Jesus Christ is the head of the church: “And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence”(Col 1:18).

As a child of God, you should let the church be seen and heard in you and your family. Let the church be reflected in your thoughts, words and actions. This understanding led Apostle Paul to write with the help of the Holy Spirit:

“Salute the brethren which are in Laodicea, and Nymphas, and the church which is in his house”(Col 4:15).

Every truly born again Christian and every congregation of true believers are part and parcel of the church at all times. The head of the church, Jesus Christ Himself clearly explained it this way: “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them”(Matt 18:20).

Brethren, have you ever thought for a few minutes that JESUS CHRIST is one and the same person, and change not? “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever”(Heb 13:8). Have you ever thought for a few seconds about the divisions in the church? Is it this same JESUS CHRIST that is the head of Catholic church, Church of England, Baptist church, Jehovah witness church, Aladura church, Celestial church of Christ, Brotherhood of the Cross & Stars church, Redeemed Christian of God etc ? Even within the Pentecostal and Evangelical  denominations, have you ever wondered about the many divisions?

Apostle Paul wrote: “For first of all, when ye come together in the church, I hear that there be divisions among you; and I partly believe it”( 1 Cor 11:18). He appealed to believers:

“Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment” (1 Cor 1:10).

I wonder how Apostle Paul would have felt if he were to witness what we are seeing today. Something is NOT quite right with the church at the moment. This may explain why the word of God has been diluted and corrupted in the church.  Our prayer is that the FIRE of the Holy Spirit will be rekindled in the church of Jesus Christ.

You are the church that the Lord is building. Yes, “ye are God’s building” (1Cor 3:9).  What materials are God building you with? May God build you with Truth, Integrity, Purity, Righteousness, Holiness, Faithfulness, Peace, Power, Love etc in Jesus Mighty Name. Amen.

Beloved, having accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour, you are a part of the Body of Christ by grace alone. You are part and parcel of the church irrespective of your physical location. You can NEVER go to yourself! Fellowship is important but please, do it with understanding. May the God in Christ give you increasing understanding of this in Jesus name.

“The churches of Asia salute you. Aquila and Priscilla salute you much in the Lord, with the church that is in their house”(1 Cor 16:19).

To grow spiritually entails daily meditating in the word of God( Joshua 1:8).

Have a blessed and fruitful week in Jesus name. Amen.
