Exhort servants to be obedient unto their own masters, and to please them well in all things; not answering again ( back) ;
Not purloining ( pilfering) but showing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God our saviour in all things. ( Titus 2 : 9-10).
Beloved, it’s with pleasure to come knocking at your domain again. Thanks for receiving me.
Friends, the call to display a godly work style is a call to exercise our inner strength and character of who we truly are as Christians. You know we have a lifestyle so I presume there must be a work style.
To me it is a reminder to set out always under God’s authority; carrying godly standards into the workplace and society at large.
Know who we are?
” We are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works……..” ( Eph.2:10)
Also in 2Cor.5:20, the Bible states ” Now we are ambassadors for Christ……”
From the foregoing, being ambassadors for Christ etc; therefore, considering godly work style appears a noble ideal. Godliness is commitment to Jesus Christ and this should reflect in all that we do.
For now, let’s read through a similar text in Eph.6:5-9.
” Servants be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ;
.Not with eye service, as men pleasers; but as servants of Christ doing the will of God from the heart;
With goodwill doing service as to the Lord, and not to men: Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall be received of the Lord, whether he be bond or free.
And as masters, do the same things unto them, forebearing threatening; knowing that your master also is in heaven; neither is there respect of persons with him”
It is my view that the principles of Titus 2:9-10 and Eph.6:5-9 apply to employees and employers in every age, whether in the home, in business and of course in everywhere.
To us there must be a deeper meaning and purpose that gives our work a real significance.
Shall we then consider these points:
1. The Christian employee is to be obedient.
This is being faithful, conscientious in service and following instructions on matters involving the workplace. The phrase ” in all things” relate to workplace. Does not mean he is to obey orders that bring reproach to the Lord and His people. ( Philippians 4:8-9)
Have an attitude of appreciation for the job, show commitment and loyalty, build good relationship and focus on increased productivity. Show excellence.
2. Serve with singleness of heart as to Christ.
You shall serve with purpose and focused attention, in sincerity without any pretense or hypocrisy or slack.
3. Don’t render eye service as a man pleaser.
Christian, work just as hard even when the boss isn’t around; period.
” For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God” ( Jn. 12:43)
4. Not answering back.( Titus 2:9)
Avoid conflict. Recognise the need for mutual respect and orderliness. Seek to resolve conflicts in a healthy way. Respond with honesty and courtesy and be constructive. ( Eph. 4:29)
5. Work as a servant of Christ doing the will of God from the heart.
Love , interest, enthusiasm, passion and spiritual energy are necessary attributes that must be brought to bear in our endeavours.
6. No pilfering.
We must show honesty and integrity.
Show fidelity – Trustworthiness, loyalty and faithfulness. Your employer is to know that they can depend on the christian worker in all that he does.
Eschew corrupt tendencies.
7. Render cheerful service to men as you would to the Lord. ( Col. 3:23)
Avoid immoral or unjust labour. Serve diligently with joy as though your boss is the Lord Jesus and not man. ( 1Cor.15:58)
8. Adorn the doctrine of God in all things. (1Cor.6:20)
Dress yourself with the teachings of God. Wherever you are the teachings should be clearly seen.
Put on the Lord Jesus. Put on the Truth.
9. Masters do likewise. ( Eph.6:9)
Employers this is for you – “do likewise” as above.
There is a Master in heaven who is no respecter of persons.
