THE IMPORTANCE OF THE WORD

“Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light for my path” Psalm119:105

Dearly beloved in Christ, we are not left in this world to grope in darkness. We are given an important and powerful instrument to help us navigate through the world. The Compass is an instrument that gives direction. We are not to just wander about aimlessly, but to have a direction of where we are going to; where we want to end up in life. Hence God has given us a life compass which is the word of God. To be able to travel through this world, we definitely need His word which the Psalmist describes as the lamp to our feet and a lamp to our path.

It is God’s word that brightens our  way, and enlighten our path for a successful sojourn on earth. Without it, we will end up in the pit. But God forbid! To succeed in any endeavor in life as God’s children, we need the word. God buttress this when He told Joshua ” Do not let this book of the law depart from your mouth ; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful”. Joshua 1:8.

In Psalm 1:1-3, we are told  that a man that would enjoy God’s blessing is one who delights in his law, meditate on it day and night (that is often); he shall bring forth his fruit in his season, and prospers in whatever he does.(paraphrased)

God’s word is our life compass toward living a victorious, prosperous, successful, and a fulfilled life. So we should value it above all else; give it a prior place in our lives. Job says ; ” I have esteemed the words of His mouth more than my necessary food” Job 23:12. That should be our disposition to God’s word. In order not to be ashamed in life, but live an honorable life, we need to study it, meditate on it constantly, and practice it. (2Timothy 2:15, Psalm 1:2, Josh. 1:8).
