Improving Our Spiritual Understanding

Memory Verse:
“For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee” (Proverbs 23:7).

Dearly Beloved
We Salute all the people of God all over the world with holy kisses . Good morning. Blessed new week.

We praise our great God in the words of the Psalmist: O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together. I will bless the Lord at all times. It may not be easy to believe or understand the works the great LORD is doing in our generation ( Habakkuk 1:5).

This week, the Lord wants us to have better understanding of importance of staying in good control of our thoughts. The personality of a man, is the sum total of his thoughts and imaginations . Your thoughts can make you or mare you. Your thoughts can build you or destroy you. Your words are the products of your thoughts. Death and life are in the power of your tongue (Proverbs 18:21). Many people with mental health issues such as anxiety or depression often lack the understanding that their thoughts were unhealthy, before the onset of their depression or anxiety. Some patients actually believe that it is their negative emotions or feelings that give rise to unhealthy thoughts; the truth is that mental health symptoms are often preceded with unhealthy thoughts and unhealthy imaginations.

If I may ask you , in 24 hours, what are your predominant thoughts? Are your thoughts healthy or unhealthy? Are they filled with faith or doubt and uncertainty? How healthy are your thoughts? In mental health, we often call them positive and negative thoughts. Healthy thoughts generate good feelings. Unhealthy thoughts generate feelings of distress. Our thoughts originate from our mind. Our mind is often regarded as the battle ground between good and evil. Your mind is very capable of automatically originating good or evil thoughts, healthy or unhealthy thoughts, depending on your exposure and focus. What the mind consciously or unconsciously gets pre-occupied with, is stored in the heart, hence God often examines our hearts in order to know the true nature of a person. The words we speak out are usually a reflection of what has been stored in our heart, hence our Lord Jesus Himself said: “for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh” (Matthew 12:34). Hence, the book of Proverbs reminds us: “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life” (Proverbs 4:23). We have to learn to constantly ‘challenge’ and ‘fight’ unhealthy thoughts, using the weapon of the word of God, and having the understanding that the weapon of our warfare are not carnal (2Corinthian 10:4).

The good news is that no matter how ‘filthy’ or ‘dirty’ the mind of a person is, it could be transformed with the word of God. Our inward being( mind, heart & spirit), may be influenced or controlled by forces we know little about, such as things we do out of ignorance or things our parents did may link us with certain ancestral evil forces. Apostle Paul admonished all true believers to ensure that their minds are transformed: “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God” (Romans 12:2). The same apostle Paul directed true believers to learn to arrest every unhealthy thought: “…and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ” (2Corinthians 10:5). Yes, our thoughts and imaginations must constantly surrender to Christ, until the mind of Christ is in us ( Philippians 2:5-6).

In Christ Jesus, God has the best thoughts and plan for us: “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end” ( Jeremiah 29:11).

Having received Jesus Christ into your heart, it is your responsibility to keep your mind and heart healthy in order to live a victorious life. As a person thinks so is he. Man is the sum total of his thoughts and imaginations. A healthy heart and mind are in unity and oneness with the mind of Christ. A mind of Christ is a mind of peace, joy, power, righteousness, purity, integrity, truth, faith, compassion, sincerity, honesty and love. May this mind be yours NOW in Jesus name, Amen.

Stay connected with Jesus , the Word. He is the Way, the Truth and the Life. He is the most powerful Spirit. Nothing is impossible with Him.

To grow spiritually requires daily meditation with the word of God (Joshua 1:8) and seeking first the kingdom of God and its righteousness (Matthew 6:33). However, the first thing you must desire greatly is total spiritual freedom through the truth in the word of God ( John 8:32).
