Beloved
There is wisdom in divine silence. There is wisdom in learning to be a good listener. Many people, including Christians are so used to talking that they will give you advice even before they listen to your problems. The word of God admonishes us to be quick to listen and slow to talk.
The book of Proverbs says:
“In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise” (Proverbs 10:19).
It is interesting to note that even a fool is considered intelligent if he/she keeps quiet!
God speaking through king David said:
” Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth” (Psalm 46:10).
A good listener is most likely to be a good counselor.
To grow spiritually requires daily meditation with the word of God (Joshua 1:8) and seeking first the kingdom of God and its righteousness (Matthew 6:33). It also requires total fear of God, and spiritual training in the word of God: “Train yourself to be godly”(1Tim 4:7-8 NIV).
Prayer
Dear Father, please give us the grace to be a good listener in Jesus mighty name. Amen.
