Improving Our Spiritual Understanding
Memory Verse
“Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin” (James 4:17).
Beloved
If we can deal with the three letter-word ‘sin’ in our lives, there will be unimaginable turn around in our lives. One man of God said : sin has the capacity to keep us at the same level for years. I totally agree.

The truth is that sin is poorly understood. There are sins of omission and there are sins of commission. Saint James puts it succinctly: if you know the good thing you ought to do, but did not do it, to the person it is a sin. Some people erroneously think that sin has only to do with stealing, lying or sexual immorality. Sin often starts at the level of our thoughts. As prophet Isaiah revealed:

“Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon” ( Isaiah 55:7).

Pastor Adeboye in one of his messages said something which I have learnt from. He said if you have something precious; if you have something to treasure, the enemies will be after you. If you are caged and already in the camp of the enemy, they will no longer run after you. So if you are under attacks or having bad dreams, rejoice because your salvation is intact. No cause to fear. Count it joy (James 1:2-3). Make use of your mouth. Plead the blood of Jesus daily. Wake up and deal with sin in your life. Righteousness will free you from every oppression (1Peter 3:13). Only in righteousness are ye established:

“In righteousness shalt thou be established: thou shalt be far from oppression; for thou shalt not fear: and from terror; for it shall not come near thee” ( Isaiah 54:14).

  1. To grow spiritually requires daily meditation with the word of God (Joshua 1:8) and seeking first the kingdom of God and its righteousness (Matthew 6:33). It also requires total fear of God, and spiritual training in the word of God: “Train yourself to be godly”(1Tim 4:7-8 NIV).

Prayer
Father, give me the grace to deal with sin in my life in Jesus mighty name. Amen.
Yours in the Vineyard of Christ.
