Improving our Spiritual Understanding

Theme: Be conscious of your oneness with God in Christ.

Memory Verse: “I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High” (Psalm 82:6)
Beloved
In this new month of total recovery the Lord wants you to recover everything the enemy has stolen from you. However, it is your responsibility to be spiritually alert.

The enemy (devil) often defeat many Christians at the level of their thoughts. The book of Proverb says: “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he” (Proverbs 23:7). Man is the sum total of his thoughts, perceptions, imaginations, beliefs, speech and confessions. There is an irreversible link between what we think, imagine, perceive, believe and our speech, actions as well as how we behave. The Holy Spirit of God is the vital link between God and man. The inspiration of the Almighty gives the spirit of man the required understanding (Job 32:8).

In the beginning, God created man in his image and likeness (Genesis 1:26-27), to function like in Him in thoughts, words and actions. Of all his creation, man was the only creature that God extended his divine nature to, out of love. God breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul (Genesis 2:7). However, this divine nature was lost when the first man Adam, sinned by disobeying God and yielding to the temptation of the devil. Thanks be to God for Jesus Christ , who has endeavoured all true believers to regain this divine nature, by shedding his precious blood, at the cross. The Scripture says: “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name” (John 1:12). Hence, our sonship of God is only in Christ Jesus by grace, and it is a gift from God through a divine empowerment, “Not of works, lest any man should boast” (Ephesians 2:9).
Unfortunately, many people in the Church lack understanding of their divine nature, and their position in Christ Jesus. As a son of God, according to our memory verse, God expects you to Think, Speak, and Act like Him. The Holy Spirit speaks to direct and guide you on the path of life. Within the body of Christ, (the church), it is amazing how often believers speak without paying attention to the quality of the words that come out of their mouth. Many at times when these errors in speech are pointed out to the person, you may get response such as: ‘I was just joking’. Unfortunately, there are no jokes in the spirit realm! What words do you speak in times of trials, temptation, challenges? The Word says: “As truly as I live, saith the LORD, as ye have spoken in mine ears, so will I do to you” (Num 14:28). Jesus himself says: ” the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life”(John 6:63).

The words we speak out of our mouth are very powerful indeed. They are messages we send out to the angelic world. Even when we cancel it, it is not exactly the same thing as if we never uttered it. The bible is full of examples. “Death and life are in the power of the tongue” (Proverbs 18:21).The same Proverbs says: “Thou art snared with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth” (Proverbs 6:2). Apostle Paul admonished us: “Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man” (Col 4:6).

If we fill our minds, hearts, spirits, and inner beings with the words of God, this will be reflected in what we say and how we behave. The words of God are reflection of the thoughts of God. God has the best thoughts for man: “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end” (Jeremiah 29:11).

It’s your responsibility to align your thoughts with the wisdom of God in His word if you are born again. We are to take every contrary thought captive ” to the obedience of Christ”(2Cor 10:5). Be open, honest and sincere with yourself. You can deceive others some of the time, but you can never deceive yourself .
Be transparent in your thoughts, words and actions. The kingdom of God is glorious light with no trace of darkness. Henceforth, may no evil force operate in your body, soul and spirit in Jesus Name. Amen.
Have a Spirit-filled week and for the rest of the year.
To grow spiritually requires daily meditation with the word of God (Joshua 1:8) and seeking first the kingdom of God and its righteousness (Matthew 6:33). However, the first thing you must desire greatly is total spiritual freedom through the truth in the word of God ( John 8:32, 36). Thereafter, ask God for sanctification by the truth in His word ( John 17:17).

Prayer:
Father, give me the grace to retrain my thoughts, words and deeds to align with the word of God in Christ, in Jesus mighty name.
Amen.
