Improving our Spiritual Understanding
Theme: We are Nothing without the Truth.
Memory Verse:
“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me”.
( John 14:6).
Beloved
Let us praise the most high God, for His mercy, grace and fruitfulness. Let’s praise the King of kings and Lord of lords. Let’s praise the Ancient of Days. Let praise the Lion of the tribe of Judah. Let praise the all sufficient God in Christ Jesus. The God that is more than enough. In him we live, and move and have our being. He himself says without me you can do thing ( John 15:5c).
Brethren, Jesus Christ is the truth. He is a Spirit that works in us. The truth is a Spirit. Without the truth dwelling in us, we are nothing and we can do nothing. In the truth we live, and move and have our being (Acts 17:28).
It is important to be able to distinguish ‘facts’ from the truth. For example, all scientific information or data are facts, subject to change when new scientific information become available. Hence, we never talk of ‘scientific truth’ but rather scientific facts. But the word of God does not change. The word of God is for ever settled in heaven. The word of God is the embodiment of the Spirit of God. John 17:17 says:
“Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.” The word of God sanctifies. The word of God cleanses us.
Please, let us pay attention to what his Word says. Jesus is the truth. The devil is a liar from the very beginning (John 8:44). He often defeat many Christians at the level of their thoughts. Am often amazed at the rate some “born again” Christians tell lies easily, to cover a wrong act. They will lie to you at the slightest opportunity, yet they believe they are born again. What a level of ignorance! Being born again is a spiritual process where your spirit man undergoes a spiritual rebirth by the Holy Spirit of God in Christ Jesus. When that happens, you become empowered by the spirit of truth. A true child of God cannot lie or distort the figures because the spirit of truth dwells in him. A true child of God should be able to express his thoughts and feelings freely, openly and should be in full control of his behaviours and actions. A true child of God should be open, honest and transparent. Jesus says : “But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil” (Matt 5:37).
The Holy Spirit of God is the vital connectivity between God and man. The inspiration of the Almighty gives the spirit of man the required understanding (Job 32:8).
In the beginning, God created man in his image and likeness (Gen 1:26-27), to function like in Him in thoughts, words and actions. Of all his creation, man was the only creature that God extended his divine nature to, out of love:
“And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul(Gen 2:7).
However, this divine nature was lost when the first man Adam, sinned by yielding to the temptation of the devil. Thanks be to God for Jesus (the truth), who has endeavoured all true believers to regain this divine nature, by shedding his precious blood, at the cross. The Scripture says: “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name”(John 1:12). Hence, our sonship of God is only in Christ Jesus by grace through faith and it is a gift from God through a divine empowerment.
Many believers lack the understanding that the same Holy Spirit that was in Jesus Christ is in us. Jesus Himself said if we believe in him, we shall do greater works than what he did while on earth ( John 14:12). The Psalmist was very much aware of our divine nature when he said through the Holy Spirit: “I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High (Psalm 82:6). The only reason we do not appreciate that we are gods is because of spiritual ignorance: “because they know not , neither do they understand (verse 5) .
Unfortunately, many people in the Church lack understanding of their divine nature, and their position in Christ Jesus. A child of God should be eager to acquire knowledge, especially spiritual knowledge.
The Holy Spirit of God, speaks, leads, guide and direct us daily, but ignorance may not allow the believer to hear from Him. The Bible says the Holy Spirit only speaks what he hears from the Word: “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come (John 16:13).
Brethren, embracing the truth is vital to your spiritual health. The words of God are spirit and life. We are to align ourselves to the words of God.
The words we speak out of our mouth are very powerful indeed. They are messages we send out to the angelic world. Even when we cancel it, it is not exactly the same thing as if we never uttered it. The bible says: Death and life are in the power of the tongue (Prov 18:21).The same Proverbs says: “Thou art snared with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth (Prov 6:2). Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man(Col 4:6).
As a mental health specialist, I can tell you that your thoughts are very important in maintaining a stable mental state. Our thoughts, produce our words and emotions, which in turn produce our behaviors and actions. If our mind is filled with thoughts of doubt, fear, uncertainty, anxiety and failure, this will be reflected in what we say and how we behave, hence, the word of God says: “for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh” (Matt 12:34).
If we fill our mind, heart, spirit, and inner being with the words of God, this will be reflected in what we say and how we behave. The words of God are reflection of the thoughts of God. God has the best thoughts for man. He says: “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end” (Jer 29:11).
God is a Spirit. God is a supernatural being and He does supernatural things. We often use out thoughts and physical senses to limit Him. Our faith in God is not based on the physical things, we see but on the things that we cannot see. God is a Spirit of goodness and perfect positiveness. There is no trace of negativity in him. He calleth those things which be not as though they were (Roman 4:17). We are to take every contrary thought captive and make it obedient to the word of Christ (2Cor 10:5). Be transparent, open, honest and sincere with yourself. Identify negative thoughts and feelings and refuse to dwell in them. This requires spiritual training. Resist the devil and he will flee from you (James 4:7).
All the works of God are done in truth ( Psalm 33:4b).
To have God- like thoughts, feelings, words and deeds ( the truth) require spiritual training in the word of God: Train yourself to be godly(1Tim 4:7-8 NIV).
To grow spiritually increasingly requires daily meditation in the word of God.

The entrance of the WORD is the true source of LIGHT in a dark world(Ps 119:130). We also encourage believers to speak to one another “in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs(Eph 5:19). We encourage everyone to “seek first the kingdom of God his righteousness”..Matt 6:33). We stress that: Righteousness exalts a person (Prov 14:34). We emphasize that pure Christianity is about True Spirituality in Christ Jesus. We emphasize that the POWER in the blood of Jesus has set us FREE from all forms of bondage, ignorance, disease and that where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty (2Cor 3:17). Jesus Christ is the Word of God (John 1:1; Rev 19:13). We emphasise that Jesus is the Truth (John 14:6). The words of God are spirit & are Life(John 6:63). We allow the Scriptures to answer all questions. We avoid the dilution, misinterpretation or deliberate corruption of the words of God. We create the awareness that Jesus has made all true believers kings and priests unto God and his Father(Rev 1:6). In addition, aside from soul winning, as a spiritual body, we also empower unbelievers with knowledge using the principles of our Lord Jesus Christ with the understanding that when they witness the power of the living God, they will be compelled to believe and exalt His holy name (Psalm 46:10).
One major objective of MOW is to increasingly improve everyone’s spiritual understanding! Spiritual ignorance is a major cause of human destruction(Hosea 4:6). Indeed, many children of God have gone into captivity, because they have no knowledge (Isa 5:13). Indeed, “through knowledge shall the just be delivered” (Prov 11:9). We are established by the righteousness in the word of God (Isa 54:14).
