Memory Verse:

“Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin” ( James 4:17).

Dearly Beloved

Good morning to the great family of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Beloved, if you truly want to enjoy your Christian life, you have to draw a battle line against sin. Sin has hindered so many Christians from making progress in life . If you do not deal with sin in your life, sin will deal with you.

Sin is basically unrighteousness. Unfortunately, many Christians often toy with sin. Many are not bothered about fornicating, lying, cheating, deceiving and manipulating others. Some people even call such manipulation ‘wisdom’. Believe me, sin is very dangerous. One of the best definitions of sin, I often like to refer to is the one given by Saint James in our memory verse. Brother James is telling us here that sin has to do with knowledge. Doing good to ourselves and others, starts with our thoughts not just actions.

What are your thoughts towards yourself and others? How lively and edifying are the words you speak to others? The words of God are Word of Life(1John 1:1), meaning that the words of Satan(doubt, fear, unbelief) are words of death. No wonder the same Saint James says a perfect person is the one who makes no mistakes with his tongue: “For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body” (James 3:2). Death and life are in the power of the tongue …( Proverbs 18:21).

Jesus Christ, our role model was anointed to go out and do good ( Acts 10:38). There was no trace of sin, evil, manipulation or wickedness in Him. Truly, only in righteousness are we established (Isaiah 54:14). Nothing can harm us if we use our anointing for goodness and we refrain from evil (1Peter 3:13).

Actually, the depth of our anointing is dependent on our commitment to love righteousness and hate sin:

“Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows” (Hebrews 1:9).

Henceforth, go out and do good to others. Go out and show love to others. Love covers multitude of sins (1Peter 4:8).

In the gospel, Jesus later met the man who was impotent for 38 years, which He restored (John 5:5-9), and appealed to the man to stop sinning, having been made whole or worse thing would happen to him:

“Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee”(John 5:14).

Jesus expects all His followers to be perfect. He admonished us:

“Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect” ( Matthew 5:48).

Stay connected with Jesus, the light of the world. He is the Spirit of God ; He is the power and wisdom of God; He is the Way, the Truth and the Life.

To grow spiritually entails daily meditating in the word of God( Joshua 1:8).
